Anteros

<3 Mortal Alias <3

Vincent Antony Erasmus

<3 Age and Physical Description <3

Anteros' celebrates his birthday on July 21st. He is the third born cherub son of Aphrodite after Himeros and Eros. When he is not in his eternal cherub incarnation he usually appears to be a man in the prime of his life that possesses a certain naive child-like appeal which he can efficiently use to his advantage while also possessing worldly wisdom. He is neither very tall for a god, standing at 5'9 nor does he possess a very "manly" frame which combined with his stylish way of dressing may make him appear dandy-like. He is a petite, lithe, but overall handsome fellow with captivating features. He possesses striking blue eyes, and his hair borders on dark blond to brown and is easily bleached out by the sun in the summer months when he stays at his beach-side home in Santa Monica California. He wants me to add that he is well endowed and has mind-blowing stamina.

<3 Personality <3

Pros: polite, elegant, charming, debonair, charitable, compassionate, romantic, kind hearted.

Cons: vindictive, jealous, forlorn, pomp, arrogant, self-righteous, antagonistic.

<3 Likes and Dislikes <3

Likes: his job as avenger of unrequited love, love, sex, women, pets, children, writing scripts and plays, teaching, acting, directing, photography, the fine arts, the beach, romance, the stars, fast cars, designer clothes, having a good time, and a well built arsenal.

Dislikes: rejection, depression, panic attacks, rudeness, prudes, busybodies, nightmares, men that hurt women, people who cruelly maim or break another's heart, frumpy dress, scary places, politics, and confusing people.

<3 Sexuality <3

Anteros encompasses a fluid sexuality although he will continue to remind others that he is straight and monogamous. Being a sexual creature he is often ruled by emotion and lust whether he likes it or not. While he prefers to be in a monogamous relationship with a woman, being more sexually attracted to women and desiring the kind of one on one intimacy that only two people truly engaged in one another can have, he often fails himself and whoever his other half is at the time.

While he is not homophobic, he does not foresee any future for himself with another male, but he is prone to dabbling/experimenting sexually with other gods despite his personal reluctance to do so. Instead of accepting his sexuality, this becomes a source of constant frustration for him and secretly he is even ashamed that he allows lust so much control over him.

<3 History <3

Anteros left the Olympian world of the gods at a very young age to make his home and live among mortals because he tired of the world of privilege and luxury (it frankly bored him after awhile) combined with a desire to flee from his own heartache over his first love (The Maiden) and his own afflicting jealousy toward his brother Eros and sister in law Psyche (Think love/hate relationship and a left out feeling.) He has remained in the mortal world for most of his adult life living a double life and even one time getting married to a mortal woman named Emily who tragically died in the 1940s in a car crash. A few years back he reunited with some members of his Olympian family and was again entangled in the drama he'd escaped from so long ago...

He currently goes between property he owns in Santa Monica and London where he owns an establishment, (which was his inheritance from a dearly beloved mortal girlfriend who passed away a few years back) that he renovated and reinvented into a nightclub he called "Sway."

<3 Strengths and Weaknesses <3

Strengths: Anteros is walking/talking charisma. He knows how to woo, and is quite capable of charming the pants off of almost anyone. He is worldly and understands mortal human beings better than he would like at times. He is cunning and is not afraid to gamble or take risks if it's something that interests him.

Weaknesses: He is sometimes too confident in his abilities. He is prone to hurting those he loves the most without cruel intention and not being able to forgive himself for it. He is worldly to a fault that he becomes easily bored and apathetic toward life and engages in rash and reckless activities and behaviors. He is a lonely and sadly depraved creature, who enjoys harming others who he feels deserve it under a front of justice.

<3 General Deity Canon <3

Anteros is the god of mutual and returned love and the unrequited love deity responsible for avenging the heartbroken by putting the hurt on those who have scorned or slighted love.

There isn’t much myth out there regarding Anteros so I use what I know. Anteros was the son of Aphrodite and it is most commonly suggested that his father is Ares although others are also subject. Anteros is the younger “twin/counterpart” sibling of Eros. He had several siblings and half siblings, (Himeros, Eros, Deimos, Phobos, Hermaphrodite, Harmonia) but his significance lies with Eros and his abilities as a deity.

The Eros myth that Anteros is a part of goes something like: Aphrodite was disappointed that her child Eros wouldn’t grow up, ever remaining a perpetual child, so Aphrodite taking the wise goddess Themis’ advice birthed another cherub named Anteros into the world to be Eros’ playmate. The concept behind this was that a one sided love can’t alone prosper and grow, but if there is someone there who mutually returns your love than the love will grow and flourish.

Anteros’ myth consists of him being the avenging spirit of this guy called Timagoras who stupidly at the request of someone he loved, a guy called Meles, flung himself from a crag. (I guess I’ll never tell anyone to go jump off a cliff. Aye?) Anyway Meles felt terrible after Timagoras committed suicide for him and I guess what he was inspired to do as a result was a result of Anteros’ inspiration/revenge because he too killed himself by jumping off the same cliff. So I guess that just shows that Anteros has a sense of poetic justice.

In art Anteros was sometimes depicted with greenish colored wings and then in art he has also been depicted as having butterfly wings, which is kind of strange since Psyche has also in art been depicted with butterfly wings. In Greek mythology butterflies represent the soul and transformation and is also linked with Death.

<3 Noteworthy Friends and Family Game Canon <3

Harmonia and Neikos: Baby sister Harmonia and his annoying cousin. Has revenge sought past with Neikos and Harmonia. It's a long story.

Peitho: Ant's childhood nurse, babysitter, and confidant.

Flidais: A foreign goddess he met on the beach one evening which was one of the things that lead him back to Olympus to begin with. He was somewhat smitten with her, but keeps his distance other than trying to maintain a friendship for a few different reasons.

Ate: One of Anteros oldest and best friends and a frequent at his Santa Monica home.

Pothos: Another dear friend who just a few years ago turned back up in his life after a long absence. Pothos and Ant have their ups and downs, but usually manage to make up and maintain some kind of amicable relationship despite the fact that Ant thinks Pothos is very annoying at times. (Did I mention that almost everyone gets on Ant's nerves and he is kind of weird like that?)

Thanatos: Anteros doesn't like him, holds a few different grudges against him, despite Thanatos being a fair god who has bailed him Anteros out of a few sticky situations.

Morpheus: Morpheus is another deity Anteros doesn't like because Morpheus has acted as Anteros' conscience through his dreams.

Hermes: And yet another god Anteros doesn't really like and this time it is because Hermes is a rival for his mother's affections.

Phobos: One of Anteros' brothers. The Panic god. Anteros takes panic attacks. Need I say more? Yes indeed, another god Anteros isn't too fond of. And this was suppose to be the "friends" and family section?

<3 Jude Law? <3

If it isn't terribly apparent, I am not Jude Law. However I envision this Anteros as somewhat resembling Jude Law and thus is why he is a muse for this character. I mulled the character of Anteros over for I think if I remember correctly about a month before I ever wrote him for Livejournal communities Theatrical Muse or the old defunct Deities Dot Com using the LJ journal Ant_Eros, but I couldn't for the life of me figure out what face I wanted to use. I wasn't really used to avatar rpgs and I'm not really a big Jude Law fan. Sure I like him, think he is a decent actor and a pretty handsome guy and all that, but why did I decide to use him for Anteros? I first envisioned Anteros as being like Ryan Phillipe from Cruel Intentions, but not, so I didn't want to use Ryan Phillipe because Ryan was too blond and not sinister looking enough for me and I wanted Anteros to be double sided. I wanted sinister but sweet, I wanted to find an icon that could be angelic and devilish looking at once. This was my goal. What I found? Yep. Jude Law. I remembered I had earlier saw some friggin creepy Jude movies, so as I was sitting at my computer thinking over Anteros and trying to find a face for him because I'd just made him a journal? As I usually do, I keep the television on for background noise and just so happened "Music from another room," was on and caught my attention. And after watching parts of that horribly sweet movie...I thought? Hey Jude you work all too well!

Disclaimer: For those who it may concern: The vindictive one and his journal are my interpretations of Anteros from greek mythology. What this means? The character outline, personality and that written in other journals under this journal makes this "interpretation" mine, thus making this an original character in that regard. This journal is used in [info]mount_olympus and may or may not contain both explicit content and innuendo. Be warned. ~Love
